When did you start an interest in rodeo? When
I was about two, and the first time I rode a sheep. I’ve tried almost every event since that day. What other sports other than rodeo do you enjoy? Baseball, football, hockey, hunting
What is the funniest thing that you have seen or experienced at a rodeo? One time at a rodeo in Elko, BC, they had a bikini barrel racing, and I was fighting bulls
there, and so I said, oh too bad I didn’t get in on that, I would have done it…well, to my surprise all my rodeo
friends raised enough money to have it again the next day. I am a man of my word, so I borrowed my daughter Sorrel’s
bikini and my wife’s barrel horse, and I ran in the bikini barrel race, and GOT SECOND PLACE…… What advice would you give to Indian youth about rodeo or anything in general? No matter how much you feel that
life is against you, don’t quit, keep trying, because you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Even in
the non native world, you can still do it. What advice would you give to Indian
youth who wanted to participate in rodeo but didn’t have the resources or support to get involved? Look into
the community and area, there are usually programs set up for the youth to have the opportunity to try new things. If
not, then call me up, and I’ll see what I can do to help… Are there
any songs that inspire or pump you up before you ride or rope? Easy E music, and 38 years Old by Tragically Hip. What would you like to see more of at Indian Rodeos? Rodeos starting
on time, better planning by committee, fun family activities, as in fairs or games. More money added. What are/is your favorite western movie? Legends of the Fall, Man from Snowy River. What is your favorite music? Country What
was your most memorable ride or run? At the FCA finals when I was fighting bulls, I got hit at the out gate and
run over by a bull that wasn’t even that mean. I ended up with a punctured lung, dislocated collar bone, broken
ribs, and a ripped ear. Way to go out with a bang… Who is your all
time hero? Rob Smets (PBR bullfighter) What Indian Cowboy or Cowgirl has influenced
you to rodeo? My late Grandfather Ronald Smith, and Marvin Dodginghorse Would
you like to thank sponsors and or anyone for your success in rodeo? Thank you to everyone who has ever supported
me and who has been there with me through the good and bad times, a lot of bad. And thanks to my family for being with
me through all the HELL. And thank you for the community support.
