When did you
start interest in rodeo? When I was about 12 years old, however, I do remember that my sister Kendra liked to rodeo
before I do now she has no interest in riding – funny how things work out!!
What other
sports other than rodeo do you enjoy? I love to play hockey – I play net for my hometown ladies hockey team. I look forward to it every winter! I
used to play basketball, soccer, football, track & field.
What is the
funniest thing that you have seen or experienced at a rodeo? At the BRHC Rodeo in Little Pine a couple years back
I fell off my horse just when I went to throw my rope – the horse went one way and I the other! My brother Sam was pick up man and he came galloping over to me and asked me if I was okay. I said that I was, so of course to make light of the situation he motioned to his wife in the stands to
see if she got that on tape! Sam is such a riot!!
The next day Wendy Buffalo did the same thing! You had to be there!
What advice
would you give to Indian youth about rodeo or anything in general? Always give thanks to the Creator for the people
and blessings that you have in your life. Listen to the elders they have much wisdom and knowledge to offer. Stay away from drugs and alcohol. Make good healthy choices. Be patient.
Are there
any songs that inspire or pump you up before you ride or rope? No. I
pray for safety for people, stock and myself.
What would
you like to see more of at Indian rodeos? More added attractions such as sheep riding, wild horse races, wild cow
milking, foot races, etc. More added money draws more people. Start on time.
What are/is
your favorite music? Country of course!
I also like round dance songs, gospel and 80’s tunes!
What was your
most memorable ride or run? 2004 KCRA One Arrow rodeo – it felt so good to catch after all season not catching,
but that was because Ryan finally gave me some good roping advice and I had more focus.
I was the only one that caught at that rodeo that weekend.
What Indian
cowboy or cowgirl has influenced you to rodeo? I believe that everything happens for a reason and that the Creator
guides and directs us. My late mosom Allan was very influential in my life –
I spent endless hours with him either by just simply visiting or helping him feed the cattle and horses – geez I miss
him! My dad Louis for his moral and financial support in my younger days – he spent countless hours teaching me to dismount
for goat tying and how to throw the rope! My sisters – Gail and late Cindy
- they were awesome cowgirls – I looked up to them and always wanted to be like them.
Ryan - for his financial and moral support – teaching me about respect for the horse and varying techniques for
roping. My brothers Sam, Curtis & Darrell – awesome cowboys and hard
workers – always willing to give a hand, advice or lend their horses!
