When
did you start an interest in rodeo?
Ever since I was a kid I grew up around rodeo.
What
other sports other than rodeo do you enjoy? I am an active person, so I enjoy all sports especially Hockey, Golf,
Weight Lifting, and Basketball.
Hockey Teams I have played for: Vernon Vipers, BC; Omaha Lancers, Nebraska; St. John Flames, New Brunswick; Calgary
Hitmen; Pensacola Ice Pilots, Florida
What
is the funniest thing that you have seen or experienced at a rodeo? I was working a rodeo pulling gates at Sarcee rodeo and Ryan McDonald got on a bull with
a broken leg. He had his spur taped to his cast, and spurred the crap out of
that bull for 85 points. That kind of stuff shouldn’t happen.
What
advice would you give to Indian youth about rodeo or anything in general? I think for a young person who is starting out, it’s
important to stay positive and practice in the event you are interested in. Some people might seem offensive or
critical, however it is important to take the positive out of the situation and learn from it.
What
advice would you give to Indian youth who wanted to participate in
rodeo but didn’t have the resources or support
to get involved? Along the road somewhere
there is always a person willing to help out. So by getting involved go and ask
if they would be willing to help you out. Maybe offer some sort of service for
the opportunity to learn about horses and rodeo. Somewhere down the road there is always a good positive person to learn
from.
Are
their any songs that inspire or pump you up before you ride or rope? Not
me, but my traveling partner JJ Meguines plays Man I feel like a woman by Shania Twain just before he bulldogs. It’s the funniest thing ever and he knows the song word for word.
What
would you like to see more of at Indian Rodeos? More Prize Money, and Marketing the sport of Indian Rodeo so we can have more fans and a better venue.
What
are/is your favorite western movie(s)? Man
from Snowy River & 8 Seconds
What
is your favorite music? I like all
types of music
What
was your most memorable ride or run? WIREA
Rodeo in Mt. Currie my steer set up on my 5 feet out of the box, and I jumped and I landed right in the path of my hazer and
Wright Bruisedhead ran me over. I still hurt to this day!
Who
is your all time hero? My Grandpa
Harry Dodginghorse, he won the Calgary Stampede and holds the arena record in Steer Undeccorating. My dad has my grandpa’s bronze trophy he won on the mantle back home.
What
Indian Cowboy or Cowgirl has influenced you to rodeo? My Dad Marvin, my late Uncle Ronald, Wright Bruisedhead and Richard Bish. They
all helped me become a better bulldogger through their encouragement and endless practice sessions.
Would
you like to thank sponsors and or anyone for your success in rodeo? My family for being behind me all the way. I have also been blessed with a lot of good people that have helped me out along the way: Patsy & Jerry Simon; Darrell Bouvier Tawow Resources; Lyle & Dianne Dodginghorse; White Eagle Crafts;
Councilor Leroy & Bev Meguinnes; my awesome auntie Karen Dodginghorse. Thank
you for being there when I needed you.
